Homer, Alaska Landscape Painting Workshop @ The Shop
Jul 12 @ 10:00 am – Jul 14 @ 3:00 pm
Homer, Alaska Landscape Painting Workshop @ The Shop | Homer | Alaska | United States

Join Tad Retz, for three days of painting, demonstrations and critiques. Tad Retz is well versed in oil, acrylic and gouache and welcomes artists to use any of these mediums during the program.

This workshop focuses on painting natural scenes composed from the landscape in and around Homer, Alaska. With a simple set of materials and a straightforward mindset, we will paint, design and draw using the power of suggestion.

Utilizing the “alla prima” approach we will sketch the environment with a sense of personality. This will be an intimate, personal workshop where questions and answers will be contemplated and tested in unique ways. We will experiment with multiple approaches and push the fundamentals that have taken artists centuries to refine.

Sack lunch included.

A supply list will be made available to students prior to the class.

“I am inspired by past artists such as John Sargent, George Bellows and Winslow Homer. Being able to capture the essence of a scene with deliberate, expressive brush strokes ignites the drive in me. I believe the most successful paintings in this style were the result of studying in the natural environment.” For artists looking at Tad Retz’s work, it is his “unerring sense of design, color and mark-making” that makes his work so compelling to his audience.

It is also with Tad Retz’s firm belief to paint from life that imbues his work with expressive energy and life. -excerpt from the Camden Falls Gallery (Sandy Quang and Pam Bardon)
